Horse back

The air is fresher, the sun gives you tan, the wind gently brushes through your skin, the feeling of alive, the guaranteed front row seat of every spectacular views, the boosted energy and metabolism for the rest of the week. I remember how good it was when I spent most of my life in an office during the week and was only to able see the nature in my day offs. Maybe I just wanted to find peace, I wanted to escape, I wanted that serendipity. Now when I’m as free as I want to be, I found myself not as mentally motivated as I used to be. I have not seen this coming.

Family

My reaction to the early wake-up alarm, the actual morning breakfast (hardly any now) are among those sideline routines I miss the most. Do I still long for these outdoor journeys?

Blue Heart

It’s the coolest thing to buy what’s hip, what’s stylish. Headphones, clothes, cellphones, watches, shoes, bags, jewelries, travel package, I’m guilty as charge on a few items just listed. My longtime chat friend told me recently, he said ‘do not live beyond your means’. It was a bit of a wake up call to myself after shopping here and there for the past 2 months.

Heaven

It’s such an irony when I look at some of my self-portrait, I discovered I’d been wearing the same hike ‘uniform’ for more than a year now. Even my shoes have shown serious wear on the sole. This is what needed to be replaced soon rather than a couple other new shirts which they would likely be hung than worn (mostly because of the warm weather here). A very typical of me.

Chefs

When I wonder what exactly i’ve benefited from my day job in the past few years, I cannot think of a proper answer to that. I got switched to different roles in the company. Throughout, maybe 1% of it was what I considered interesting, the rest are just duties. The first year was most educational, I’d learned all the basics which made me knowledge-wise above an average person. It’s by the way a useful asset. Then in the later years, I was assigned to more operation, marketing tasks. The food/wine trade shows and food travel programs on TV/internet were the update patches when I get no opportunity to travel. The bottom line is I still love food.

It was originally more of a practice session for a side project I help on video shooting. I was able to tag along, to a fine-dining media tasting at a 5-star hotel. I was informed an Italian guest chef (who appeared in Hell’s Kitchen Italia and MasterChef Italia) would be in town for just 3 days. But nobody ever told me we get to eat the full course with wines selected by their in-house sommelier, in an exclusive private room with an open kitchen. Together with the hotel restaurant’s head chef; not only i got the front row seat, some of us went near the chef and get explained what they were doing. There were about 10 other media representatives at the table which they’re total strangers to me. We were treated just like the VIP guests.

They prepare food in style, present it like a show, plate it like an art.

Beef Tartare with Sliced White Truffle

I woke up on the next day still could not believe I had such dining experience. It was just that surreal. I’d been promoting/selling truffled mushroom sauce in my day job for years, but so unfortunate that I’d not seen or eat any fresh truffle. Seeing the real thing is nothing like how I’d normally found on the internet or TV. On the good side, part of what i’ve learned from my job makes me easily to appreciate the Italian food and wine.

These kind of tastings (which i believe may vary in scale) are needed every so often in order to get the wheel spinning for the local dining scene.

My computer went out of service for over a month until I get a replacement. With all the inconveniences, it was hard to believe I could survive that long without it.

There goes the bad, here comes the good. My work got selected to show on the Slideluck Hong Kong event along with 19 other ‘artists’ (that’s how they put it). It’s my first proper public showcase of my photo series. I cannot be happier to have my alias listed on their event banner!

Nature and Us

Photography

Nature as one

Classrooms, labs and museums are some of the most common medium to learn out of the world and all things science. Biology has been the most interesting subject under that umbrella. Knowledge-wise in the basic level has the least amount of formula and calculation required for understanding. Many of these ideas are just pure fact which makes it relatively easy for common folks to acknowledge. Tigers are in the cat species, Bats are mammals, so on and so forth.

Another subject I used to like the most was Geography. Similar to Biology, they both have close relation to our nature. Perhaps I may not remember a thing after so long, when I come across the geological formations, natural phenomenons, occurrences; it kept me curious enough to read about it.

Science field trips only granted to those who have shown interests and maybe throw in some good grades in order to persuade the superiors you’re one curious individual. These trips are easily to manage for the instructors and professors in labs and museums. Ironically as a grown up kid when I begin appreciate as a living being, I found learning out of classrooms or simply just be there in the nature would give a vivid and immersive experience. I see live animals communicate without our word based language. I see trees stay as strong as they can without our civilized supports. I see all these animals fulfilling their roles to balance the nature. They all have a purpose to maintain their homes without dominating. And what are our roles? Are we the keepers to maintain the cycles of nature? Or are we creating another cycle of nature to better our own kind?

Playful Monkeys

Our society becomes our own jungle. Many of us were born equal, but the our later life statuses and classes determines the societal layer we reside in for at least half of our lives. This hierarchy keeps our society running. It’s often seen in the less competitive countries, the way of life is not as fierce and people are content. What good does it do (to us) when the city uses its resources to maintain the top of its game (economically), while sacrificing the city peoples common love and happiness. Are we creating a new nature where most of us not habitable?
