Sai Kung is the far east part of the New Territories in Hong Kong. The beaches there are simply breathtaking. Water is so clear that you could see the coral reef beneath. It’s famed for the back garden of Hong Kong.
Last week our family joined a local tour. When I first heard, WTH, local tour? Why would we need a local tour? The tour was organized as a weekend gathering of my mom’s Taoism community group. I had not ever been to Sai Kung, at least to travel…as far as I remembered.
We were so worried that day would rain. There were occasion showers throughout the week. The night before I hesitated on taking my X100 out (sitting at home collecting dust). At the end, I brought my GRD with me. I was so used to the 28mm now. Switching to 35mm, will make me uncomfortable again. Turned out, the other morning was sunny and so warm.
That day I wasn’t aiming to shoot any candid street photos. I knew the schedule wouldn’t allow me to spend extra time on an attraction. So this series is more of an encounter of my trip. And most were scenery which aren’t that bad even without the PL filter or anything.
The Fisherman
I snapped a hand full of cellphone photos at the country park. Many of them are great. I got them uploaded to Instagram. I’ll share some here later on. I haven’t walk into the nature since I middle school. I always had an excuse not to go trail walking with my dad. He’s a regular trail walker.
The tour began at 8am. We were enjoying the views of the outer island and the dense forest vegetation at the country park. The next stop was the Tin Hau Temple. It’s where all the fishermen used to worship the god of sea and wind. The temple itself is not too special. I was more into the clear water and beautiful sunshine of the day.

After visiting the Tin Hau Temple, we stopped by the Sai Kung Town for lunch. Sai Kung town has a huge boat parking area. And what I like about this community, is the low story buildings. I could finally see the sky without looking straight up. The market street reminds me of many photos of Japan and Taiwan (i wish to visit those countries..) It was only a pee break shortly after the lunch, I sneaked out and snapped a few of the market in 5 mins.

I have come up with a few color presets. The photos here you see is under my preset for a sunny day. I’m still working on a preset for cloudy/shaded photos. My night preset that I’m working on is exaggerating the contrast and details so much that it’s revealing all the ugly pixel noise. My solution is to go black and white. More experimentation to go…
